Just because the seasons have shifted a bit doesn't mean the fun has to stop. If you're not quite ready for puffy jackets and pumpkin spice, no need to worry! There's still plenty to do during fall in Central Oregon and, BONUS, many tourists are back at home which leaves more room for locals to explore the trails, check out your favorite restaurant, or just zip around town. Check out some of my top pics for September Fun in Central Oregon!
OUTDOOR CITY USA
Are you thinking to yourself, "Does Bend need another outdoor festival?!" Apparently, the answer is yes and the solution is Outdoor city USA. Kicking off it's first year, this multi-sport event featuring biking, running, hiking and climbing activities and competitions for all ages and abilities descends on Mt. Bachelor September 13-15. It sounds pretty rad, so if you go, I'll probably see you there!
MARAGAS WINERY ANNUAL GRAPE STOMP
If climbing and biking aren't your activity of choice, you can opt to check out the Maragas Winery annual Grape Stomp instead! Attendees have the opportunity to crush grapes, win prizes, and of course sample wine.
Did someone say wiener dog races AND beer?! Yep, that's right - at this annual fundraiser for Downtown Bend, you can watch your neighbors wiener dog compete in a heated race competition while sipping on beer samples. This is probably one of my favorite events of the year as it's family friendly, free to attend (beer tasting is not free), and the weather is (usually) great!
You know what's great about hiking in the fall? Fewer people, virtually no mosquitoes (oh my gosh the mosquitoes were BAD this year!), and with a bit of a chill in the air you don't get too hot. Fall is one of my favorite times to take a hike on the weekends or after work and thankfully Bend Magazine has compiled a short list of beautiful hikes to check out this season.
